I attend
a fair number of wine events and festivals. They contribute to our overall
improvement by offering introductions to bottles containing liquid miracles
and serve as reminders that those few priceless moments we have on this
planet are to be enjoyed. What separates the New Orleans Wine and Food
Experience from the others (beyond the obvious fact that it is the finest
example of what a wine and food event should be) is location, planning
and visionary leadership.
No other American city matches The Big Easy as a host venue for such
a spectacular gathering of excellence. Here, great restaurants are revered
as holy shrines and new ones emerge with the odds of success in their
favor. Wine lists in a no-name café will more often than not
be interesting, often eclectic.
 The
NOW&FE incorporates a representative cross-section of New Orleans
featuring its incredible restaurants, along with a rich mixture
of top galleries, museums and historic sites. Well-organized with military
precision, each component runs smoothly over the course of a few days
allowing participants to immerse themselves in fine wine, gourmet dishes
plus romantic local culture and leave for home perhaps a little heavier
but certainly spiritually enriched.
I must recognize and salute Tim McNally who heads this magnificent affair.
Tim, a brilliant man who loves his city and region, is a genuine professional
who knows his wine and food like few others. He and those equally great
denizens working alongside him present us with another opportunity to
celebrate the glory of the grape the way it really should be in one
of the world’s great cities.
